So, did you know that liquorice or licorice is the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra from which we extract that sweet flavour? The plant itself is native to Western Asia and southern Europe and is a herbaceous perennial. Perhaps more pertinently, it tastes great and we sell it by the wheelbarrow-load (or any other gardening vessel you'd like to bring in).
We stock traditional English liquorice in jars, such as Pontefract Cakes and Liquorice Gums, and make up packs of Catherine Wheels, Wands, Pipes and Sticks. We can also supply Liquorice Root Sticks (which the Tudors originally used as toothbrushes, would you believe?).
If it's traditional jar items of Liquorice Allsorts, Balack & White Mints or Pontefract Cakes you're looking for ... you've found them here.
One wall of our shop is also devoted to imported liquorice from northern Europe: Belgium, Holland and Scandinavia. According to local taste in those countries, our 20 choices here range from hard and salty to softer, chewier and sweeter. Zouts (which are also vegan) and Liquorice Cats are especially popular here, but if you love bees, try the Honey Liquorice.
We also have sugar-free Liquorice Domes and Liquorice Coins.
For those looking for themed hampers we recommend The Sweet Lorry a company specialising in hampers for all occasions, including anniversaries and corporate gifts. Their range includes sweets, fudge and chocolates and follows such themes as coffee, ginger, gin, whisky and, well, liquorice. The Liquorice for AllSorts is the perfect gift for liquorice lovers everywhere.
